Time won't let me go.

Friends!  Many apologies for my long hiatus!  This cold weather has me less than enthusiastic about doing anything other than sleeping in the corner of my home.  But, alas, the weather is warming, and I'm feeling up to more than just sleep.

Tortoise life is nice now that I don't feel frozen inside a block of ice.  Mom and Granny have laid off the hay in my food.  I've been getting the good stuff.  Also, Granny broke my UV heat lamp trying to kill Sam and Charlie.  She was trying to spread the warmth and ended up dropping MY light into THEIR tank.  It didn't hurt them, but the bulb broke, so she had to clean the glass out of their tank.  Oh how I miss my heat lamp.

Other than those things, I've been well.  Mom's still not home much, Granny's here all the time.  Occasionally my aunt and cousin will come to visit.  My "Aunt" came up from Miami this week, and I finally got to meet her.  She was very nice, but started feeling ill and had to go home.

Mom recently cleaned my room, but didn't have any sand for me.  But it's great, she used Timothy Hay, and I really enjoy it.  Makes it feel like I'm back home in the grasslands/desert.  Except for the heat.  I could use some heat.  Other than my daily baths, which I usually stay in for about half an hour before the water goes cold.

With warmer weather comes more frequent blogs!  I promise not to leave you all for this long again!

Attention readers!

I apologize from the bottom of my tiny sulcata heart for my absence.  It's uncalled for, because I know you've all been waiting with baited breath for news from TurtleTown.

It's not been an exciting week.  Mom's never home.  She usually wakes up and prepares my bath, but Grannie usually makes my breakfast.  I miss Mom.

She came home the other day to discover I had fallen out of my food dish, and I had rolled on my back.  She thought I was dead, but soon discovered I was very much alive.  She picked me up, made me a soothing bath, and comforted me.  It's not easy being a leftover dinosaur in this fast paced, modern world.

I've also resigned myself to eating this "healthier" diet.  It's not my favourite, but hunger gets what hunger wants, and that is sustenance.  Grannie usually tries to disguise the hay as tasty food.  She'll mix it with some spinach and squash.  I eat it, but that doesn't mean I like it.

Sam and Charlie have been good too.  They like Macy's food, which is usually brine shrimp, since she's and Eastern Mud Turtle, and likes to eat stuff that's alive... Yuck.  Grannie likes to make them beg for the shrimp, she thinks it's funny, and honestly, it is.

Macy is good too.  She's eating, but Mom and Grannie are still kind of concerned.  They check on her regularly.  She's alive and well, so I suppose everything is good.

I'm not sure what else needs to be said, it's been a slow and lonely week in TurtleTown without Mommy.  She promised Sam, Charlie, and Macy clean bowls before she goes to work today.  Hopefully she has time.

Sorry guys!

I apologize for my absence these last few days.  It's been a busy weekend for this sulcata!  I met a new friend on Saturday, Mommy and Grannie's friend Lorine.  She was nice, and thought I was cute.  She took a picture, and a video of me!

Sunday was boring, Mom was at work all day, after giving me a bath and breakfast, so I hung out with Grannie all day.

But today... I'm mad at Mom.  She thinks I don't eat healthy enough, so she decided to change things up on me.  Today, I thought I was getting a super tasty breakfast, as usual, but instead, there was stuff in there that I don't think I like.  It was a little bit of carrot, some spinach, and timothy hay.  She said she read it on a website about sulcatas (http://www.sulcata-station.org/).  She just wants me to be healthy and live a really long time.  Which I totally understand, and I plan on living to a ripe old age.

So I guess I have to get used to this new diet.  She says I'll learn to like it, and when I eat it on a regular basis, she'll give me the treats I like sometimes.  I love treats... Like squash.

Anyways.  Mom also found out what kind of turtle Macy is.  She's an Eastern Mud Turtle.  She likes to eat bugs and meat.  Mom says that means she's "carnivorous."  She also started eating today, which makes me happy because I know Mom and Grannie were starting to worry.

I think that's about it.  I'll have Mom take some pictures of me soon and I'll post them.

Best Day Ever....

So, Mom had to work...  AGAIN!  But Grannie made my breakfast, but put radishes in it, so I was thoroughly unimpressed.

Anyways, so Mom came home from work, ate really quickly, and left again, this time with Grannie.  They came home about an hour later.

And guess what?!  THEY GOT ME A BABY SISTER!  Her name is Macy, and she's beautiful!  About the size of a nickle, whatever that is.  Here are some pictures.  I've gotta go be a big brother!

This is Macy!

This is Macy in comparison to Ms. Brenda's finger.

Chillin'

Mom always talks about "Mental Health Days."  I think today was one of those days.  Not much happened, Other than Grannie making my breakfast.  She did it differently, grated it, and it was much easier for me to eat.

Other than that, I relaxed in my hot tub...

I'm looking at the man in the mirror...

Tonight, when Mom got home from work, she took me out and was playing with me.  And you know what!  I thought she had gotten me a brother or sister, but it was really just me!  There's this cool thing that lets you look at yourself.  It's so cool.  I don't even remember what happened all day because I got to see what I look like.  I really saw myself for the first time...

Anyways.  I was kinda peeved with Mom because she made me eat tortoise chow today.  She knows I prefer other things.  But noooo, made me eat that nasty crap.  But I was hungry, and I ate it, and it really wasn't that bad.

Here are some picture from my mirror experience, and one of me just being cute.

Look!  It's me... AND ME!

The other me was not prepared for this photo.

What an exciting day.

I love it when Mom doesn't have to work.  This morning, she woke me up in a warm bath and my heat lamp.  I basked, and basked, and basked.  It was most excellent.  I dunked my head and drank.  It was simply marvelous.  While I was basking, Mom made my breakfast.  Lost of yummy things, and I ate like I hadn't eaten in a long time.

Then she left for a long time.  I missed her, but spent my time redecorating my house, and sleeping.

And tonight?  I had company!  I hung out with my aunt, uncle, and cousin!  It was a lot of fun.  I played with the cats, and got a good look at my step brothers, Sam and Charlie.

That's about it for today.

My Aunt's red, sparkly fingernails looked mighty good.

Just a little hello from tortoise world!

Me and my cousin, Skyler.  He named me Steve :)
